Air Bags
Air Bag also know as SIR (Supplemental Restraint System) is a
safety system installed on most newer vehicles that works in
conjunction with the seat belt system in reducing fatalities in a
head-on impact.
If the Air Bag lamp is on the system is disabled and will not
function or deploy in a head-on collision. Most vehicles will
initiate a bulb check when the ignition is first turned on. Normally
the bulb will come on for several seconds, possible flash and turn
off if all systems are working properly. Causes for the illuminated
can be many. A bad sensor, clock spring, deployed seatbelt and even
an alternator charging system not working properly may be the cause.
The only way to check the system is to connect a scan tool (usually
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture)) to check for codes and
diagnose the system. We have the OEM scan tools for: GM,
Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth, Acura/Honda,
Toyota/Lexus and Audi/VW. Also there is a good chance one of our
aftermarket scan tools will be able to read Air Bag codes for the
other vehicles not listed.
